Sustainable, Self Reliant, and Emergency Preparedness Products, Equipment and Food
We can be totally self-sufficient with good preparation for short periods of time and mostly self-sufficient for perhaps even a few years. We don't believe that any individual can be totally self-sufficient for any great length of time. (try making a light bulb or a razor)
What we can do is be more self-reliant! First in our attitude and awareness to what may happen and second in our actions to be prepared for what could happen.
So our little shop sells products and supplies that can help you prepare for a minor emergency (like our 72 hour kits). We have products for campers (like our freeze-dried food) and we can help you get prepared for a lot longer (see our food and water storage). We also have products that help with simple living (see our grain mills and solar ovens).
Being self-reliant means you have the on-hand supplies and knowledge necessary for a weekend, a month or a year to keep yourself and your family safe and healthy.
Us? Part of our journey was moving out of a large city and relocating to smaller center. We moved onto a larger piece of land with fruit trees, fresh water and enough space for a large organic garden. We created a cold storage room and preserve as much of our harvest every fall as we can. We buy in bulk because it's less expensive and you always have some on hand. We've started a personal collection of books on canning, gardening, saving seeds and country living. More importantly is that we are DOING the things we read about. You can't just read about growing a tomato.
We support local farmers and markets as much as we can. We buy local and organic as much as possible for our own health, a healthier ecosystem and for a stronger, sustainable community. We HAVE to get intensely local with our food production if we want sustainable communities.
Are we totally self-sufficient? No. (see my earlier note) We are however becoming more self-reliant with every step along the way and surprisingly enjoying it more each year. It just feels good to be prepared.
We will do everything we can to help you along your self reliant journey. So come to the store, send us an email or take your first step. You might just like it.
